sneha-16A list of applications were shortlisted by Chairman Mr. Tomichen Kozhuvanal, Secretary Mr. Cimy George and Treasurer Mrs. Shinu Clare Mathews as usual to gleam light to the lives of some poor people back in India by assisting them financially to overcome their misery with life threatening diseases, during this Christmas season. Further enquiries/verifications carried out by the trustees in order to include these applications in the ‘Christmas Appeal 2016’ which will be featured in ‘British Malayali’ in the coming days.   The importance and the responsibility of the charity has been increased substantially In the wake of the huge support received in the recently concluded  ‘Jossy Appeal’ run in respect of an ill-fated young nurse who lost her life in the fight against leukaemia.  Hence, the trustees have decided to go for a seasonal appeal including a number of  applications received by the charity in the recent past.  All the trustees were in action last week to sort out the applications received to finalise the cases to take up for the appeal after necessary inquiries and verifications with the prospective beneficiaries as well as with local socio-political-religious leaders to confirm the authenticity of the cases. As a matter of fact, a strict vetting/checking procedure is always carried out prior to the approval of the cases by the board of trustees well before launching the appeal.

The appeal begins with the heart-throbbing story of a 13 year old girl from Pathanapuram in Kollam district of Kerala, who is suffering from leukaemia at her young age. Sneha was diagnosed with this life threatening condition three years ago and her desperate father Mr. Satish Babu is struggling to save his daughter by any means.  But his job as a bus driver would not help him at all to meet the huge expenses of treatment as the initial investigation was done at Regional Cancer Centre at Thiruvananthapuram. Subsequent treatments were given at Vellore Medical Centre and now, Sneha has been admitted into Madhura Meenakshi Hospital where only reasonable expenses are to be borne by the family compared to other places.  However, stem cell transplant is the only solution to cure the disease which costs around Rs. 12 lakhs. The family finds it very difficult to raise this exorbitant amount as they are already in huge debt and financial obligations due to the ongoing treatments.
