The charity has issued an emergency appeal for a week in the wake of ongoing adverse weather conditions associated with seasonal monsoon rain in the southern state of Kerala, India. Many people have lost their life and a large number of people lost their livelihood including their houses. The worst affected areas are northern ,eastern and western parts wherein landslides and heavy flow of water in the rivers washed off the shores including people and houses. Simultaneously, western parts of the state including Ernakulam, Kottayam & Alleppey districts are heavily flooded due to the slop geographic terrain of the state towards the west. The state government and NGOs have opened relief camps in areas where people lost their houses and have arranged temporary accommodation. The Chief Minister of the state also have appealed for assistance and financial support from people around the world. The central government has deployed army personal to deal with the situation. The very famous Idukki hydro-electricity dam had to open its all shutters to release the excess water as a precautionary and safety measure which caused water overflowing the Periyar river.  As a matter of fact, almost all the hydro-electricity/irrigation dams are opened to cope with the excess rainfall and waterfalls.

The trustees discussed in detail about issuing an emergency appeal and decided to go for an appeal as a solidarity and support of U.K malayalees to the people of Kerala, wherefrom most of the  community emigrated from associated with BMCF. The trust will be deciding further about the beneficiaries to support as mostly will arrange to support directly without any agencies.
