The extensive damages are still being accounted and the recovery operations are going on even after few days of the devastated landslides which struck the mountain villages of Mundakkai and Churalmala in the early hours of Tuesday 30th July at Wayanad district of Kerala, South India. Since the Malayali community in the UK  hailed from the home state of Kerala, the trustees decided to go for an emergency appeal without any loss of time to support the affected people. Even though it has not decided specifically to support a certain project, appropriate decision will take in due course accordingly afterwards since the full scale of damages are yet to come out. The raised funds may be used for rehabilitation purposes for the families, who lost their dear and near ones, houses and all their assets including the cash and crops. The eyewitnesses statement of  the tragedy is heartbreaking as the survivors witnessed themselves helplessly watching their family members washed off in the terrible landslide.

Many people are missing and the rescue operations are still undergoing while we issue the appeal as numbers of human remains are recovering from the debris. The natural disaster struck in such an unimaginable scale that the Indian army has been called in to assist the rescue operations as many inhabitants of the village is still unaccountable as the dead bodies had been found kilometres away in rivers due to powerful landslide. The army had to erect a temporary bridge to connect the isolated Mundakkai village as the bridge was destroyed in the backlash of the floods.  It has been reported as the largest landslide as Kerala State  ever  has seen in the history. Killed over 500 as per the available latest report  and almost three villages in Wayanad District known as Mundakai, Chooralmala and Mepady are washed off completely leaving the fertile land left with just muds and rocks.

BMCF trustees took an immediate decision to issue an emergency appeal and further course of action including the distribution of funds will be decided later once the full scale of casualties /damages made available.

The trustees urged everyone to come together to support theiy fraternity in Kerala same like they did during 2018 Kerala floods appeal as an overwhelming amount of Rs. 88.00 lakhs raised and given to the Govt. of Kerala for rehabilitation purposes.

Please click the link to donate whatever you can and ensure to give consent reclaim gift aid if you are eligible since each and every £ 1.00 you donate will get enhanced to another £ 0.25 by reclaiming the gift from HMRC.

British Malayali Charity Foundation’s skydiving event has been boosted with the announcement of Shajan Skariah’s participation. The fundraising charity event has so far raised over £17Ks equal to Rs.17 lakhs with the efforts of around 30 skydiving participants. Shajan said in a statement that he is very proud in taking part in the challenge, wherein he himself formed British Malayali Charity Foundation in 2012 while he was in England. The foundation has given around £ 1.3 million, approx. Rs.13 crores to hundreds and thousands of people in UK and in India, who were struggling with life threatening diseases or due to the sad demise of their family members.  Apart from his profession as a free and fair journalist, Shajan is a fearless crusader against injustice, malpractices and corruption in the system. He was haunted by the govt in Kerala in the recent past fabricating  false allegation charges by the police and the officials. However, the  honourable courts including the apex court in India bailed out him in different occasions rejecting the plea to be jailed.

While he has shown his courage and enthusiasm in reporting the news to support the oppressed ones in the society, he has now come forward to give a hand to the poor nursing students by taking up a physical challenge also. Shajan has already been working in the society by helping the underprivileged and deprived and he wants to make a positive impact in their lives by pursuing  english version of charity wherein the fundraiser always needs to do something like a run or any other physical activities to raise funds. The nursing profession has made a very prosperous change in the financial equation of Kerala as many struggling families have been able to have a better life with economic stability. The keralaites were always in the forefront to grab every available opportunities around the globe including UK for the high demand of nurses. Not only they were able to settle well around the world but their families in Kerala also benefitted from their overseas jobs.

British Malayali Charity Foundation had conducted these events previously as well and hundreds of nursing students were  supported financially out of the funds raised.

BMCF charity skydiving 2024 has been gathering momentum with many more people coming forward to take part in the challenge, which is scheduled to be held at Langar, Nottingham on 8th September 2024. This is the 4th time the charity undertakes such event and this year also will be supporting bright but financially backward nursing students from Kerala, India. As a token of charity’s appreciation and solidarity to the nation and people where they live in, a local charity also will be supported with a nominal fund. The trustees have decided to support Alzheimer’s research UK.

Luckily we are blessed abundantly with plenty of resources but there are people around the world, their lives are crippled with miseries due to diseases, lack of proper housing and other financial struggles. There are people who have no financial resources to buy even food, buy medicine to treat their diseases along with no income. BMCF has taken the decision to support nursing students thereby aiming at the socio -economic upliftment of weaker sections in the society.

The organising committee under the leadership of Francis Antony as General convenor is working tirelessly throughout to implement the program successfully. The Chairman Sabu Sebastian, Secretary Biji Jose and treasurer BoneyChandyare  also in the forefront.

Fr. George is a well known household name in UK amongst the community due to his extra -spiritual activities in the field  healing and evolving the the people’s lives through various teachings. His motivational and inspirational speech has changed the lives of many and he lives in a very modest way amongst English community with a great bondness with Malayali fraternity. His slight physical disability, which occured due to the polio disease  in the childhood, never was a hinderance in undertaking challenges such as skydiving to support the poor people across the world. He hail from Kochara , Kumaly , the high range district of Idukki, Kerala, India.

Another young talent  taking part in the event is 18 years old Stefan Holms Skariah, the son of founding chairman of British Malayali Charity Foundation & Managing Editor of MarunadanMalayali, Mr ShajanSkariah and Olympian Bobby Aloysius.  Stefan with his mum and siblings migrated to UK couple of years ago to fulfill the dream of Bobby to utilise the vast sporting opportunities in UK for her children, the same way she got years ago. Stefan has completed his +2 before migrating to UK and have secured a place in AI in one of the great universities in England. Stefan wanted to follow the footsteps of his dad, Shajan, who not only a free and fair journalist but has been in the humanitarian field assisting the people with financial difficulties. It is Shajan, who took initiative in forming British Malayali Charity Foundation alongside his media works through British Malayali online news. Stefan’s attempt has been greatly appreciated by the local Malayali community in Telford and across Britain and expect to raise an overwhelming fund to support aspiring nursing students in Kerala, India. Please support Stefan by clicking the following link:

23 years old Beffin Jose is the another young participant in the charity skydiving event. Apparently, he is the son of charity foundation’s secretary and also known as Angel from Belfast, Biji Jose.  Biji has earmarked a lion share of her lifetime for the needy people around her. As her son, Beffin has always the natural instinct to support others, which he see in his everyday life through his benevolent mum. In other words, this is charity family as one person alone cannot do humanitarian works without the support of others in the family. They set aside their own priorities and find out  time and energy to the needs of others, who are struggling to cope with their daily life due to limited resources. Beffin is a mechanical engineer aspiring to become a pilot in the future. Beffin is excited to merge his technical expertise with his passion for aviation. He wantz to fundraise for charity because he believes in making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Beffin  says supporting charitable causes is a way to contribute positively to his community and beyond, addressing critical issues like poverty, education, and healthcare. By raising funds, he thinks he  can help provide essential resources and opportunities to those who might not otherwise have them, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment.

The challenge is open to all public from the age of 16 but to some maximum weight restrictions..
