A Night of Inspiration: British Malayali Charity Foundation Honours Unsung Heroes
Birmingham witnessed a night of pure inspiration as the curtain fell on the first-ever British Malayali Charity Awards Night, held at Washwood Heath Academy. In a world often clouded by self-interest, this event shone a beacon of hope, recognizing the silent warriors of charity, those who work tirelessly to uplift others.

What made this night truly remarkable was the overwhelming presence of young hearts and selfless souls among the awardees. Children, youth, and experienced hands alike stood tall, proving that compassion knows no age.

Young Stars, Big Hearts
In the health sector, the spotlight shone on Dr. Veena Babu, a young doctor from London whose dedication to healthcare won her the prestigious award, presented by Olympian Bobby Aloysius. Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar from Croydon, a relentless force in social service, received his well-earned recognition from Consulate General Representative Ashish Chauhan. Ashok’s story resonated deeply with the audience—his charity Sada, founded in memory of his late mother, has given countless diabetic children the chance to grow up with their parents.

The moment that truly tugged at heartstrings was when Ashok, now 65, spoke of his journey—how he defied excuses and kept running marathons to raise funds for charity. His words, “When there are a hundred reasons not to exercise, our success lies in finding just one reason to do it,” echoed through the hall, inspiring many.

Among the junior heroes, the Shrewsbury brothers—Justin, Jason, and Jayden—stood proud, while in the youth category, Daniel Kunnell from Leeds received the coveted award. Each young awardee carried with them a message: kindness is not a burden but a privilege.

A Celebration of Giving
The night also belonged to the Malayali associations and organizations that have dedicated themselves to charity. East Sussex’s ‘Esma’ and Southampton’s ‘Mothers’ Charity’ were recognized for their outstanding contributions, with awards presented by Olympian Bobby Aloysius and Councillor Manju Shahul Hameed. Their relentless efforts have not only provided relief but have also ignited a fire of generosity within their communities.

In an electrifying moment, Shinu Claire Mathews from Bolton and young Noel Sabu from Manchester were honoured for raising the highest funds in the Skydiving Appeal. Shinu Claire’s absence due to an emergency did not dull the moment—her award, accepted by Chef Jomon, symbolized the unyielding spirit of those who dare to make a difference.

Adding to the evening’s grandeur was a touching tribute to Fr. George Puthur, whose unwavering commitment to fundraising for the British Malayali Charity Foundation has changed lives.
More Than Just an Award Night
This wasn’t just an awards ceremony—it was a movement, a message, and a milestone. With over 100 artists gracing the stage, the night pulsed with the rhythm of culture, music, and gratitude. The lively Sopana music and breathtaking performances ensured that the event wasn’t just about recognizing past efforts but inspiring future generations to serve.

The most powerful takeaway from the evening? Giving is contagious.
As the awardees took to the stage, their eyes shining with emotion, it was clear—this was not the end of their journey but just the beginning. For those in the audience, especially the children, the night whispered a simple yet profound truth: In a world that often takes, be someone who gives.

And as Birmingham bid farewell to the first British Malayali Charity Awards Night, it did so with the promise that the spirit of giving will only grow stronger. ‘Because kindness, when celebrated, multiplies.
