The local Malayali community and well-wishers across the UK have come together in a heartfelt show of solidarity following the untimely death of Shinto Pallooerarhil Devasia, a 42-year-old resident of Southampton originally from Puravayal, Ullikkal in Kannur, Kerala.

Shinto tragically passed away due to a cardiac arrest while at work in the Isle of Wight just before Easter. He had been working extended shifts away from his family, driven by financial hardship and the hope of building a secure future for his wife, Riya, and their two young daughters. His passing has left the family emotionally and financially shattered.

In response to this devastating loss, the British Malayali Charity Foundation (BMCF) launched a fundraising appeal through the KindLink platform. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the community, the collection has crossed £10,000, reaching a total of £13300.

Collection from Kindlink: £10825

Collection in bank: £840

Kindlink fee: £379

Shinto had recently secured a more stable job in the Isle of Wight after years of working through temporary roles. Despite suffering from health conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes, he took on long, extended shifts to support his family and save for their dream — to one day build a small home back in Kerala.

The BMCF trustees, including Shaji Lukose and Simon Jacob, have been in direct contact with Shinto’s wife and extended family in Southampton to ensure support reaches them swiftly. Investigations also revealed that the family was living on a dependent visa, adding urgency to their situation.

The funds raised will go towards immediate needs, funeral expenses, and helping Riya navigate visa-related processes and support her children in the days ahead.

The community continues to stand in support, echoing the sentiment that no family should be left alone in the face of such tragedy.
