The fundraising appeal to support the family of Late Manish Namboothiri, which had been ongoing for the past week, has successfully concluded, raising a total of £15,800. The appeal, originally set to close on the night of February 9, remained active until yesterday evening following a request from Manish’s colleagues at NatWest Bank.

By the time the appeal closed at midnight, 533 contributors had donated £13,537 through Kindlink and £311 through bank transfers. The final amount of £15,800 includes an additional £14 from the General Fund, and the family will also receive the gift aid collected through Kindlink.

Tragic loss of a beloved community member

Manish Namboothiri, originally from Shornur in Palakkad, India, moved to the UK with his wife three years ago. He initially worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland before transitioning to a position as a technology officer at NatWest Bank. Just weeks ago, he had purchased a house, marking a new milestone in his life.

Tragically, Manish collapsed and passed away while playing a game of table tennis. Despite efforts from his friends and paramedics to revive him, he could not be saved. His body is currently being kept at the Livingston Hospital mortuary. His wife, Divya, is struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss, while his elderly parents in India are waiting for the opportunity to see their son’s body one last time.

Support for the family of Sojan Thomas

Meanwhile, the fundraising appeal for Sojan Thomas, who tragically passed away after falling from a staircase in Peterborough, has also seen significant support. Out of the £10,900 collected, the first installment of £5,000 has been handed over to his family. This amount was transferred from the general fund to cover immediate expenses, including travel costs to repatriate his body. The remaining funds will be transferred to the family once the amount collected through Kindlink reaches the bank account.

Fathima, a loving mother of two young children, has been facing a serious medical condition that requires ongoing treatment and care. Her health has significantly deteriorated, leaving her unable to work, and placing an immense burden on her husband, who is the sole provider for the family. With rising medical expenses, daily living costs, and childcare responsibilities, the family is in desperate need of financial support to cope with this difficult situation.

The UK Malayali community has been responding generously, but the need remains urgent. The funds raised through this appeal will go towards covering medical expenses, essential living costs, and ensuring that the children’s needs are met during this difficult time.

Donations can be made via Kindlink or directly through the designated BMCF bank account. Every contribution, big or small, will make a significant difference in easing the family’s hardships and ensuring that Fathima receives the care she desperately needs.

The BMCF extends its heartfelt gratitude to those who have already contributed and encourages others to step forward to support this noble cause. The foundation remains committed to ensuring that 100% of the funds raised reach Fathima and her family.
