Manchester Malayali community rallies behind BMCF to support family of Late Nurse Jebin Sebastian.
The British Malayali Charity Foundation (BMCF) announced an immediate fundraising appeal to support the family of Jebin Sebastian, a 40-year-old cardiac theatre nurse at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, who tragically passed away unexpectedly after suffering from a heart attack. The Malayalee community in Manchester came together in full support, successfully raising £26000 as of late to assist his bereaved wife and children.
Jebin fell ill at around 2 A.M in the early morning of Tuesday, 1 st April 2025 and since the ambulance services informed of their late arrival, he was rushed to the hospital by one of his friends. However, he was succumbed to death due to the fatal cardiac while undergoing an ECG procedures in the emergency department. His passing has left his young wife Alphonsa, and their three little children devastated as Alphonsa, herself is also a healthcare worker and is currently on maternity leave after the birth of their youngest child seven months ago.
The Jebin Sebastian appeal, which concluded at midnight on 4th April 2025, by raising an amount of £26000, received £21,697 through KindLink, £4050 as gift aid and £1,571 via direct bank contributions. While KindLink’s deduct £760.00 as a commission, the remaining funds will be handed over to Jebin’s family. Despite the official closure of the appeal, KindLink has continued to facilitate funds from other groups and well-wishers who wish to contribute. The final collection and hand over figures will be updated accordingly thereafter.
In honor of Jebin’s memory, a special mass was held at St. Anthony’s Church, Wythenshawe, which wasvattended by a large number of community members. Prayers and condolence meetings were also organized at his residence led by Fr. Jose Kunnumpuram. Several community leaders, including Sumesh Rajan, President of the Manchester Malayalee Cultural Association, and Sunil Kocheri, President of the Kerala Catholic Association of Manchester, have extended their support to the grieving family.
Jebin, originally from Kappumthala in Kuravilangad, Kottayam, Kerala had recently moved into a new home with his family. His untimely demise, less than a week after settling in, has left the community in deep mourning. The overwhelming response to the fundraising effort reflects the collective grief and solidarity of the Manchester Malayalee community in supporting Jebin’s wife and children during this difficult time.
