£20,600 Handed Over to Xavier Lonappan’s Family as British Malayali Community Rallies Around Them
Final instalment of £3,800 transferred to his wife, Nija Joseph, completing the charitable support raised by British Malayali readers.
The British Malayali community has once again demonstrated its remarkable generosity by extending a helping hand to the family of Xavier Lonappan, who tragically passed away at the age of 44 following a sudden heart attack.
The entire sum of £20,600 raised for Xavier’s family has now been handed over, with the final instalment of £3,800 transferred to his wife, Nija Joseph, bringing the fundraising effort to a close.

The amount was transferred directly to Nija’s bank account through three online bank transfers. An initial payment of £12,000 was made on 6 October, followed by £5,000 on 20 October. The remaining £3,800 was transferred in the final instalment.
The fact that the money was raised within just three days reflects the extraordinary compassion and solidarity of the British Malayali community, whose members came together to support a family facing an unimaginable loss.
Xavier, who lived in Warminster, near Bath, died unexpectedly following a heart attack. His sudden passing at just 44 years of age left his wife and children devastated.
Xavier and Nija had come to the UK with hopes of building a better future for their family. The arrival of their third child had brought renewed happiness and doubled the family’s joy. However, their dreams were shattered by Xavier’s untimely death.
The tragedy was particularly heartbreaking as Xavier had reportedly gone to lie down beside his children before his sudden death. What should have been an ordinary moment of family life became an unimaginable tragedy, leaving Nija to face the future without her husband.
In the midst of their grief, the family found comfort in the overwhelming support offered by British Malayali readers. Their generosity has provided practical assistance during an incredibly difficult period and demonstrated that the family is not alone in facing this loss.
The successful completion of the appeal stands as a testament to the kindness of the British Malayali community. Every contribution, regardless of size, helped bring relief to a grieving wife and her three children as they begin to navigate life without their beloved husband and father.
The family’s gratitude extends to everyone who responded to the appeal and stood beside them during this painful time. The support offered by the community has been a powerful reminder of the compassion and unity that connect Malayalis across the UK.
