Binoy George Appeal Concludes, Raising £3,900 for Bereaved Family
The appeal launched to support the family of Binoy George, a native of Pala, Kottayam, who sadly passed away after being diagnosed with blood cancer, has now concluded, raising a total of £3,900 for his bereaved family.
The two-day appeal received tremendous support from the community. Around 200 people contributed £3,155 through KindLink, with an additional £629 received through Gift Aid and £200 contributed directly to the bank account. After deducting the £110 KindLink processing fee, a further £26 from the General Fund was added to bring the final support amount to £3,900, which will be handed over to Binoy’s family.
Binoy came to the UK around three years ago with his wife, Sheeba, and their two children, carrying hopes and dreams for a better future. He worked night shifts at a Tesco warehouse, while Sheeba worked as a carer at Ferndale Nursing Home. Their lives were centred around building a secure future for their children.
Their hopes were tragically shattered when Binoy was diagnosed with blood cancer. Despite undergoing treatment and fighting bravely against the illness, his condition deteriorated rapidly. His unexpected passing has left his wife and two young children facing an unimaginable loss.
Sheeba came to the UK on a care worker visa and continues to work at Ferndale Nursing Home. The couple have two sons, 17 & 11 year old students.
Following around two weeks of physical illness, Binoy was initially treated at Redhill Hospital before being referred to The Oak Cancer Centre at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, where further specialist investigations confirmed his diagnosis. Chemotherapy was commenced, but he subsequently suffered severe bleeding in the brain. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was transferred to a ventilator. Sadly, Binoy passed away on 1 August at approximately 12:30 pm.
His elderly parents and relatives in Kerala are now waiting to see him one last time. His body will be repatriated to India, where his funeral will take place in his hometown of Pala.
The family and those supporting them are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to the appeal. Every donation, message of support and act of kindness has provided much-needed comfort to Sheeba and her children during this devastating period.
The £3,900 raised through the appeal will be provided to Binoy’s family to help them meet their immediate needs as they face the difficult days ahead.
