‘Onam Appeal 2016’; distribution of funds gets significance due to peculiar & diversified guests at ‘Gandhibhavan’, Kollam..
The Hindu Aikya Vedi (Hindu United Front) firebrand leader Mrs. K.P Shashikala teacher, political rhetorician Mr. P.C George and the well-known local leader Mrs. Shahida Kamal were the prominent personalities attended during the brief fund distribution ceremony conducted at ‘Ghandhibhavan’, Pathanapuram, Kollam on the 12th of October 2016. ‘Gandhibhavan’ is familiar to charity supporters as many of the fund distributions were held at this homely abode of around 1500 destitute people including young children and orphans. The world-known industrialist and philanthropist Mr. Yusuf Ali had recently donated an amount of over Rs. 1 crore and also had visited this sanctuary in the recent past run by Dr. Punalur Somrajan & family. Ex-Chief whip and MLA Mr. George was appreciative of the works done by British Malayali Charity Foundation and its trustee Mr. Shajan Scaria, who presided over the meeting.
The above function was organised to hand over ‘Onam Appeal 2016’ fund of £ 10834.00 to eight beneficiaries, whose stories were featured in ‘British Malayali’ newspaper in September 2016 as part of ‘Onam’ celebrations.
The amount of £3000.00 is given to paraplegic Mr. Biju Varghese from Mukkuttuthara in Pathanamthitta dist., who invented specially-converted car in 2004 which can be driven by paraplegics. Also Arjun Murali, a +2 student from Ernakulam, Kerala has received an amount of £1200.00 to fund his major surgery, who is a victim of public neglect and irresponsibility. 5 year old little Sonimon from Kongandur, Kottayam dist. also received an amount of £ 1200.00.
43 year old housewife Pushpa from Kuravilangaladu in Kottayam district, Mr. James’s ( Muttuchira, Kottayam dist.) were benefitted with an equal share of £ 1200.00 from the appeal.
Mr. Mani (63) from Kothanalloor in Kottayam dist. who is paralysed on his right side with regular medication, Mrs. Rama Sadanandan, a kidney patient, 43 year Anilan from Karuvappady Thekkekkara area in Trissur dist. have also been benefitted an equal amount of £ 1000.00 each from this appeal.
